We are an Ear, Nose and Throat practice based at Flinders Private Hospital in the Southern region of Adelaide. We provide private, emergency and elective services to patients referred from local GP’s and Specialists. We also see patients referred from the Accident and Emergency Department at the Flinders Medical Centre.

Our rooms are equipped with the most up to date equipment for diagnosis and treatment of ENT conditions. We also provide advanced tertiary private and legal opinions and surgical options for interstate, international visitors and overseas clients (rates on request).

We have a dedicated area for children to play, and video game facilities for older children. We support a child safe environment and such adhere to a Child Safe Policy. We are conveniently located just five metres away from Hudson’s Coffee where you can purchase beverages and food.

Professor Carney is one of Australia’s leading Academic ENT Surgeons, and currently a Professor of ENT Surgery at Flinders University. He graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1989 with distinction in Surgery. He trained as a registrar in ENT Surgery in Nottingham and undertook Fellowships in both Head & Neck Surgery and Rhinology in Adelaide and New York. In 1998, he was awarded the Gold Medal by The Royal Society of Medicine for the top candidate in the UK final ENT Fellowship examination. Simon was awarded his Doctorate for pioneering research into molecular changes in the nasal mucosa that precede the development of hay-fever.

Professor Carney has over 100 publications in scientific journals (including a first-author paper in the BMJ and a second-author paper in JAMA), and has been a faculty member at over 250 national and international meetings.

He is a founding Director and Vice Chairman of the “not-for-profit” group Asia Pacific Otolaryngology Surgical Training (APOST) which provides free or subsidised training to junior ENT surgeons from emerging countries in the Asia Pacific region.

He is currently an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy, as well being a previous Editor of The Australian Journal of Otolaryngology from 2008-2013. He also sits on the editorial board of the leading journals “Rhinology” and “Clinical Otolaryngology”. In 2008, he received a ministerial invitation to join the Clinical Senate of South Australia, a ‘think tank’ of 40 leaders from all branches of health care. In 2009 he was appointed as Visiting Professor at the University of Khon Kaen, Thailand. In 2021 he was appointed as Visiting Professor at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine in London.

As an ENT specialist, Professor Carney regularly teaches at surgical courses throughout Australia, Asia and in the UK. He is past President of the Australia and New Zealand Rhinologic Society and has been on the Board of the International Symposium of Infection and Allergy of the Nose, also chairing their Education and Training sub-committee. He has performed over 20,000 surgical procedures and has pioneered several new operative techniques and instrument designs for ENT equipment manufacturers.

Professor Carney believes in conservative management ahead of surgery and in formulating unique treatment plans for every patient based on both the disease itself and the individual’s wishes and circumstances.
